LULAC.org [ [link removed] ]

Hello,

After Vanessa Guillen, LULAC wants answers for Enrique Roman-Martinez. We also
invite you to come be a part of our Rally to Honor Heroes as we celebrate the
diversity of our Armed Forces and join a coalition to rename military bases that
still honor Confederate leaders.

Here’s what else you will find in this issue:

* #RetoolingYourCareer: a virtual job training with MMTC.

* Apply to the Latino Flash Pitch competitions to get your startup or small
business running again.

* Grow With Google has workshops to help you land your next job!

Here is what you should know.

What’s Going On in The Army?

That’s the question LULAC wants answered.

On Memorial Day weekend, Army paratrooper, Enrique Roman-Martinez went camping
with friends from Ft. Bragg, North Carolina where they were stationed. He never
returned.

Now, military investigators say Martinez was killed but they haven’t explained
what happened and no one has been arrested. So far we know that the Latino
soldier’s dismembered remains washed ashore days after he went missing and his
family says the circumstances around his disappearance don’t fit the brother and
son they knew.

Leonard Gonzales is Vice-Chairman of the LULAC Task Force on Military and
Veterans’ Affairs. He says, “What we need is to connect the data points that each
of these incidents represents. Vanessa Guillen, Gregory Wedel-Morales and now
Enrique Roman-Martinez. Each killing is separate but still reflective of
something going on in the Army. We need to figure out what it is and how to
address it.”

LULAC continues to work for an independent investigative panel which the Army has
agreed to establish and also asked for a congressional hearing into sexual
harassment and abuse within military ranks.

Virtual Rally to Honor Heroes

Join in! [ [link removed] ] - Sunday, August 2, 2020

The League of United Latin American Citizens and Citizens Against Intolerance
have partnered to hold a voter registration drive and rally to celebrate the 72nd
Anniversary of Executive Order 9981 [ [link removed] ] .
It was signed by President Harry Truman in 1948 committing the government to
desegregate the military. The order led to establishing the President’s Committee
on Equality of Treatment and Opportunity in the Armed Services. This Sunday,
social justice leaders and public policy experts will speak about the
significance of our country’s mission to reflect its diversity. See the link
below to take part.

Sign up for our virtual stream by taking a moment to register at
LULAC.org/heroes/rsvp. [ [link removed] ]

The Virtual Honor Heroes Rally is meant to urge voters to turn out November 3rd
and exercise their civic duty. Also, let’s raise awareness on the importance of
renaming various military bases that still honor Confederate leaders . This is
only one step we can take to change America’s cultural mindset and eliminate
symbols that promote racial subjugation and inequality.

Let’s all be part of this mission by taking action! [ [link removed] ]
Help share the message, sign the national petition [ [link removed] ] ,
reach out to your members of Congress, and get involved with voter
registration/turn-out efforts in your community.
