FAKE FILIBUSTERS
When most Americans think of filibusters, they think of Mr. Smith Goes to Washington — one honest Senator speaking non-stop for hours. That’s a real filibuster.
Today, we live in the era of the Fake Filibuster. Senators who want to stall legislation nowadays don’t have to speak on the floor at all.
All Democrats have to do is threaten to filibuster, and Republican leaders duck and cover. They negotiate with liberal senators. They water down bills. Using Fake Filibusterers, Democrats can delay any bill without lifting a finger!
The use of the Fake Filibuster allows them to BLOCK the America First agenda and then BLAME Republicans for not solving America’s problems.
Some think the solution is to use the nuclear option to end all filibusters. While that might be desirable, the simple fact is that a group of RINOs will never provide the votes to nuke the filibuster.
Thankfully, there is another option.
Instead, Republicans could simply nuke “Fake Filibusters” by making the Democrats talk. Without changing any rules, Republicans could force Democrats to conduct real filibusters again.
Make them talk day and night. Without any rest, weekends, or bathroom breaks.
Bernie Sanders is 84. Chuck Schumer is 75. Elizabeth Warren is 76. They have not worked a real job in decades.
How long do you think they could keep up a talking filibuster? How many nights and weekends would they give up to block popular legislation? How long would anyone listen to a bunch of hoarse old men rasping about “Orange Man Bad” all hours of the night?
Please.
WEAR. THEM. OUT.
Within a few days, Democrats will give up. Debate will end. The Senate will vote. And President Trump’s America First reforms will pass with only 51 votes.
Then — this is the best part — Republicans can immediately call up the next bill and DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN!
If Senate Republicans end Fake Filibusters, they can pass more conservative legislation in a month than they have in years.
