A Spiritual Bouquet for the
Agenda of the Consistory
Dear Friend,
As we approach the beginning of the
consistory of Cardinals, we lift up our voices: “Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of the
Cardinals and enkindle in them the fire of Thy love, send forth Thy
Spirit and they shall be created and Thou shalt renew the face of the
earth!”
This is the cry of the Church for
the descent of the Holy Spirit in every age, but even more importantly
for the upcoming consistory which is set to begin on Wednesday,
January 7th, the day after the traditional Feast of
Epiphany. Please add
your gift of prayer to the Spiritual Bouquet! This is your final
opportunity before the Consistory begins.
In addition to praying for the
wellbeing of the cardinals themselves, we also pray specifically for
the agenda items of the consistory that they will have to address.
According to the letter that Pope Leo sent to the cardinals
personally, there are three basic agenda items which need our
prayers.
Prayer Need 1: The evangelization question.
Pope Leo has directed the cardinals
to re-read the documents, Evangelii gaudium and Praedicate
evangelium, as a
preparation for the consistory. This means their Eminences will be
talking about the Church’s mission to evangelize and all the
implications of our “great commission” to the world.
“Come Holy Spirit, fill the
hearts of the Cardinals and enkindle in them the fire of Thy love,
send forth Thy Spirit and they shall be created and Thou shalt renew
the face of the earth!”
Prayer Need 2: The synodality
question.
This may be the most critical
prayer need of our spiritual bouquet. Based upon the extreme emphasis
Pope Francis put on this bizarre new concept of the Church (remember
that “synodality” showed itself to be something entirely different
from the traditional concept of the “synod of bishops”), there needs
to be an evaluation as to the exact meaning of “synodality”. The
Cardinals will need wisdom from on high to discern this. A common
sense approach to the matter would simply be to abandon the damaging
and confusing idea altogether, but that’s up to the
Cardinals.
“Come Holy Spirit, fill the
hearts of the Cardinals and enkindle in them the fire of Thy love,
send forth Thy Spirit and they shall be created and Thou shalt renew
the face of the earth!”
Prayer Need 3: The liturgical
question.
Another area of extreme tension for
those of us who uphold the Traditional Latin Mass (TLM) is the
liturgical question, which was unduly inflamed by the awful document,
Traditionis
custodes in 2021. This
wholly unprecedented policy of open hostility to the Latin Mass
attempted to undo the reforms of Benedict XVI allowing greater freedom
and latitude for the TLM since 2007.
So, for this intention and for all
the needs to be addressed by the consistory of Cardinals, we raise up
a cry from the heart of the Church for discernment, wisdom, and true
reform:
“Come Holy Spirit, fill the
hearts of the Cardinals and enkindle in them the fire of Thy love,
send forth Thy Spirit and they shall be created and Thou shalt renew
the face of the earth!”
We hope you will join us in sending
our Spiritual
Bouquet to the cardinals who are set to meet in Rome, the
spiritual epicenter of our Church, to decide on critical issues. May
their Eminences deliberate together and decide on all matters in union
with the Tradition of the Church and the Will of God, all under the
guidance of Christ’s Holy Spirit.
Yours in the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of
Mary,
