** 4 Million Milestone

The number of people known to have been infected with the virus in the United States passed four million today, and as the
NYT reports ([link removed]) , cases are trending upward in 39 states, as well as Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, and are decreasing in only two.
** China Promises Retaliation

The United States abruptly ordered China to close its consulate in Houston by Friday, and as the
Washington Post reports ([link removed]) ,
China immediately promised to retaliate for the "unprecedented escalation.”

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is calling on the Chinese people to alter the ruling Communist Party’s direction in a speech explaining the Trump administration’s full-throttled response to an assertive China and saying that Chinese leader Xi Jinping is a “true believer in a bankrupt totalitarian ideology,” as the
WSJ reports ([link removed]) .
