Dear Friends,
This weekend, I was thrilled to host our annual Team Pelosi New Year’s community celebration, showcasing the beautiful diversity of our beloved San Francisco — artists, activists, supporters and friends from across the decades, alongside my family and our very special guests, California Senator Adam Schiff and San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie. We came together to celebrate the New Year on the 19th anniversary of my taking the gavel as Speaker of the House on January 4, 2007, For The Children. It was a true privilege to say “Thank You” in person to so many of our VIPs — our outstanding Volunteers in Politics whose tireless support and dedication are the reason that Democrats won in 2025 and will take back the House in November of this Happy Blue Year 2026!

As America nears our 250th birthday, we are all reflecting on our Founders’ tremendous vision of our constitutional republic grounded in the separation of powers and the rule of law — a vision that is not shared by the present occupant of the White House. The President’s actions in Venezuela are only his latest effort to distract us from the mess that he has created on every front. As we criticize the President’s military action and demand a diplomatic solution in Venezuela, let us also recognize that Nicolas Maduro is a ruthless dictator. That said, the Trump Administration has arrested Maduro and charged him with selling drugs into the United States only weeks after Trump pardoned and released another notorious narco-trafficker former head of state who was convicted of selling 400 tons of drugs into the United States — after bragging about jamming those drugs up the nose of the American people. But make no mistake — there is a throughline for both actions by Trump: money.
Trump doesn’t care about your health care or stopping drugs from coming into the United States. He cares only about money — for himself and for his rich MAGA donors. It is no coincidence or surprise that Trump is saying publicly that he wants to take over the oil industry in Venezuela in a brazenly corrupt scheme that will further enrich the same Big Oil cronies who donated to his presidential campaign last year after he promised them a big return on their investment if he were back in the White House.

Right now, three things are happening. First, health care costs are rising for millions of American patients because of Trump’s policies. Second, Tuesday marks the fifth anniversary of January 6th, the day that the then-President of the United States incited an insurrection against the Congress, the Constitution, and the Capitol of the United States. So he needs to change the subject. Third, his stinking, lousy, ugly, rotten bill takes health care and food away from tens of millions of Americans and removes $500 billion from Medicare to give a big tax break to the wealthiest people in America, harming working families. It’s sinful. Even Trump knows this, so he’s trying to change the subject — but we will NOT be distracted!
We have a very serious situation going on in the world, in addition to the Republican-created health care and affordability crisis at home — but know your power is all of this! The many calls that we have made together to Save Our Health Care, to pass Prop 50, to push back against this monstrous Administration have made a difference. Your outside mobilization is how we passed the Affordable Care Act, how we protected the ACA and how we will Save Our Health Care again and Take Back the House!
