Folks,

Finally, some good news just came out of Washington. A bill to remove confederate statues from the U.S. Capitol passed the House of Representatives overwhelmingly.

Now the future of this bill is up to the Senate. Unfortunately, passing this important bill in the Senate won’t be easy. And why? Because senators like Cindy Hyde-Smith — who once claimed that the confederacy was Mississippi history “at its best” — are intent on holding us in the past.

I’m especially concerned, because while this legislation is being blocked by Republican leaders in the Senate, Hyde-Smith is in charge of the very Senate subcommittee that has the budget authority under a separate measure to remove confederate statues from the U.S. Capitol.

Will you rush $10 right now to my campaign to replace Cindy Hyde-Smith? This election is our chance to flip the Senate and elect leaders who will stand for progress and unity. [[link removed]]

Last month, Mississippians historically came together to retire the confederate battle emblem on the state flag after 126 years. Now the conversation is turning to what to do about confederate statues in the U.S. Capitol. Mississippi is the only state to be represented by not one, but two confederate figures.

I’m not afraid to be a leader on this issue. I believe that the right thing to do is replace these hurtful, hateful statues in the U.S. Capitol. If I were in the Senate right now, I would do whatever I could to replace Mississippi’s confederate statues.

It’s clear that it is time to remove these old symbols of hate from the U.S. Capitol so that our country can move forward, and so that Mississippi can be represented by statues that we can all be proud of.

If that’s the kind of leader you want representing you in the U.S. Senate, please pitch in $10 or more to our people-powered campaign. [[link removed]]

Thanks for all you do.
