Happy New Year! As we head into 2026, we’re officially back, and ready to get to work.
The Union exists for a simple reason: there are real gaps in the democratic process, and too often, those gaps go unfilled. The Democratic Party does important work, but it can’t always walk and chew gum at the same time. That’s where we come in. We step in early, we build infrastructure, and we make sure communities aren’t left behind—especially when it comes to recruiting strong, local candidates.
That’s why we’re kicking off the year with an immediate, high-impact effort you can plug into this week.
We’re partnering with Red2Blue and Lead PA, who are leading an effort to recruit candidates for every Pennsylvania State House seat. They are building two volunteer teams and need support identifying and reaching out to potential prospects:
- Research Team: Identifies and vets potential candidates
- Call Team: Reaches out to prospects to discuss what running for office could look like
Too many districts go uncontested, and with the 2026 filing deadline approaching, this short-term effort (running only through mid-February) is critical. Virginia used this exact strategy in 2025 and flipped their House. We can do the same in Pennsylvania.
To participate, volunteers should be comfortable using Slack and simple database tools. You will be trained on everything; you just bring your time, commitment, and curiosity.
