Last week, Texas Values Action released the 2019 Faith & Family Scorecard showing how state legislators performed in the 86th Texas Legislature on our core issues impacting religious freedom, marriage & family, and life, as well as other important pro-family issues. The 86th Legislature saw progress made in protecting religious liberty, with the passage of the Save Chick-fil-A Religious Freedom Act (SB 1978), and protecting life, with the passage of the Taxpayer Protection from Abortion Providers Act (SB 22) and the Born Alive Infant Protection Act (HB 16). To recognize legislators that demonstrated a strong commitment to voting for and supporting our core issues, Texas Senate and House members that scored 90% and above are recognized as 2019 Faith & Family Champions:

With the 2020 election coming into focus, now is the time for Texans to equip themselves and hold their elected officials accountable. Make no mistake – elections have consequences. After flipping 12 Texas House seats and 2 Texas Senate seats in 2018, Texas Democrats have their eyes on turning Texas blue. The average House Democrat scored an abysmal 3%, including 47 Democrats (out of 67) that scored 0%. In the Texas Senate, the average Senate Democrat only scored 17%. Senator Eddie Lucio, Jr. is the only Democrat in the Senate or House that scored a passing grade (82%). As our Faith & Family Scorecard clearly shows, there are major differences between Republicans and Democrats on core issues, including religious freedom and life. There is no doubt that the future of faith, family, and freedom in Texas will be impacted by the 2020 election. One of the most important ways you can help Texas Values Action hold our elected officials accountable in the 2020 election season is by making a generous donation today to help cover the cost of producing and distributing the 2019 Faith and Family Scorecard. Your financial support is critical to ensuring more Texans are reached with this important tool and that our elected officials are held accountable for their record in Austin.
