Over the weekend, President Trump launched a military attack on Venezuela and forcibly removed its president, Nicolás Maduro.
Since then, Trump has made his motivations clear. This attack and regime change is about oil. He said it himself. He wants Venezuela’s oil — and he is willing to use American military force to get it.
To me, this sounds painfully familiar. A war justified after the fact. A regime change sold to the public. A reckless gamble with American lives in pursuit of oil.
We’ve seen this play out before. It was called Iraq. And now, President Trump is launching Iraq 2.0 in Venezuela.
The American people rejected that war — and we must reject this one too. I will not stand by while another administration drags us into a war for oil and asks American servicemembers — and their families — to pay the price.
