Friend, as 2026 begins, we must all commit to massive reform of our political system – because year after year, it has grown more unfair and more undemocratic, thanks in large part to Donald Trump, his Republican allies and wealthy corporate interests rigging our democracy in their favor.

In our current political system, the richest men in the world, including Elon Musk, are allowed to spend unlimited amounts of money in our elections. In 2024 alone, Musk spent nearly $300 million to help elect Trump and Republican majorities in Congress. Musk has again pledged to spend huge amounts of money to sway the 2026 midterm elections for Republicans. 

On top of all the corporate interest money they benefit from, Republicans have resorted to rigging congressional maps in their favor under orders from Donald Trump. Trump and the GOP, knowing that they are likely to lose the midterms, have gerrymandered congressional maps in states like Texas in their favor – all to prop up their extremist majority in the House.

And as if the unlimited amounts of money and map-rigging weren't enough, history has shown us the lengths Trump and his allies will go to when they lose: inciting insurrection against our democracy. 

Tomorrow marks five years since the Jan. 6 insurrection, when Donald Trump sent a mob to desecrate our Capitol and attempt to overturn the results of our free and fair elections after he lost.

While we should be resolved in how our democracy triumphed that day – resolved in how far our democracy has come – we commemorate the anniversary knowing that Donald Trump, upon returning to power, pardoned the criminals who stormed the Capitol for him.

America has been an experiment since its founding. It has long been imperfect, while striving for the highest ideals of democracy and equal justice under law. It is beyond question that Donald Trump is a threat to those ideals. But with the new year underway and a midterm election on the horizon, now is the moment we need supporters like you to weigh in on what must be done to improve and reform democracy.
