The Bureau of Justice Statistics has released two datasets on prisoner statistics through the National Archive of Criminal Justice Data (NACJD). These surveys collect data on the number and characteristics of prisoners in state and federal prison facilities, and contain aggregate data on race and sex of prison inmates, inmates held in private facilities and local jails, system capacity, noncitizens, and persons age 17 or younger.
