On Saturday, Donald Trump ordered the U.S. military to attack a sovereign nation and kidnap its leader. Then he went on TV and flat-out confessed that it was about taking over Venezuela’s oil.
This is one of the most flagrant violations of both U.S. and international law in American history. And one of the most condemnable acts in the ever-expanding litany of crimes, cruelty, and corruption that Trump has carried out in pursuit of his dictatorial ambitions.
There is no congressional declaration of war and no authorization for the use of force in Venezuela, making Trump’s actions transparently unconstitutional and illegal. And his actions would be illegal under international law even if there were congressional authorization. No twisting of words can possibly conjure a story by which Venezuela constitutes a national security threat to the United States, let alone an imminent threat, justifying military action.
We don’t know yet what the human toll of this attack will be for the Venezuelan people, but we do know that this is an assault on the rule of law in our country, on the rules-based international order, and on America’s system of checks and balances.
Congress must step in and stop this lawless president.
Tell Congress:
Pass a War Powers Resolution without delay to prevent the Trump regime from taking further military action within or against Venezuela unless explicitly authorized by Congress.

Thanks for taking action.
