TELL CONGRESS:
Trump’s invasion of Venezuela and the kidnapping of President Nicolás Maduro are terrifying and blatantly illegal military actions. Congress must stop these reckless, unconstitutional acts of war.
Sign the petition: Stop Trump’s war on Venezuela!
Yesterday, Trump invaded Venezuela and announced that the U.S. military kidnapped President Nicolás Maduro. Trump then declared that he is going to “run” Venezuela and that he will “get the oil flowing.”1 Invading a country and kidnapping its head of government without any congressional authorization are terrifying and blatantly unconstitutional acts. “It’s about oil and regime change,” Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said after Trump’s invasion.2 We’ve seen what happens when the White House invents a pretext to launch a regime change war with an oil-rich nation: disaster and suffering for innocent civilians, our troops, and their families—all while costing the American taxpayer a fortune. Congress must assert its legal authority over warmaking and stop Trump’s war. Sign the petition: Urge Congress to immediately pass a war powers resolution to end Trump’s military actions in Venezuela.Politicians in both parties have spent the last 20 years denouncing the U.S’s endless regime change wars in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya and elsewhere. Now, it’s time for Congress to actually take action and stop the war on Venezuela. If left unchecked, Trump will continue his global rampage, no matter how many people he kills. Yesterday, Trump also threatened military action action Cuba, Mexico, and Colombia, and earlier this week said he is “locked and loaded and ready to go” into Iran.3 Only Congress has the constitutional power to declare war. Lawmakers must use this authority to stop Trump NOW. Sign the petition: Pass war powers resolutions to stop Trump’s military hostilities in Venezuela and beyond! Thanks for taking action,
