Dear Friends and Comrades,

This is not a typical email for a city council candidate, but these are not typical times.

I am appalled by the flagrant disregard for U.S. law, international law, and human life that Donald Trump and his gang of fascist warmongers have displayed in their ongoing and illegal war against Venezuela.

This attempt at violent regime change has been initiated in complete defiance of all applicable U.S. and international law, and it is explicitly intended to install a puppet government that will exist only to enrich U.S. oil companies and their billionaire owners at the expense of Venezuelan workers.

During the short life of his illegal war, Donald Trump has already used the the U.S. military to murder over 100 Venezuelan citizens in unlawful strikes and kidnap the political leader of Venezuela and his spouse in unlawful raids. The scope of these criminal acts will worsen over the days, weeks, months, and years to come unless all of us act immediately to end this aggression.

As an opponent of all imperialist violence and a supporter of each people's right to self-determination under international law, I affirmatively call on Arizona's federal officials, including Senator Mark Kelly, Senator Ruben Gallego, and the Representative from Congressional District Four, Greg Stanton, to unequivocally condemn Trump's illegal war against Venezuela, immediately pass a War Powers Resolution blocking Trump’s military aggression, and loudly demand (1) the total withdrawal of all US military assets from the Caribbean, (2) the restoration of diplomatic relations with the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, and (3) an end to the illegal unilateral sanctions against Venezuela.

I further call on all elected officials at Arizona's state, county, and municipal levels of government to immediately pass resolutions and make active use of their social platforms to denounce this illegal war while amplifying the previously stated demands as far and wide as possible.

Finally, I ask that each person reading this message immediately use the following link, set up by the Democratic Socialists of America, to contact their members of Congress and demand that they fight for a swift end to Trump's illegal war against Venezuela.
