When others fail, Democratic women step up and lead. Earlier this summer, Emerge expanded our commitment in the fight for racial equity and justice by pledging to fill the pipeline with women who will run for offices that are rewriting our criminal justice policies, recruiting and training more Black women leaders to run at every level of office, and continuing to support these candidates with a powerful network as they campaign to win. This year, more than 700 Emerge alums are on the ballot, ready to fight for their communities. Mayor London Breed nominated Malia Cohen to lead their community through action on critical reforms in policing.
Across the country in Boston, Emerge alums have stepped up to transform local policing.
And in Colorado, our alums have introduced a package of life-saving bills.
Last month, 92% of Emerge candidates in Georgia prevailed in their primary. In New Mexico 88% won. We saw similar results in Pennsylvania, Kentucky, and Virginia as alums continued to flip critical seats from red to blue.
