Dear Friends and Comrades of Santa Fe DSA,

The fascist Trump administration in its hubris has unilaterally attacked Venezuela and kidnapped its President with the aim of occupying the country indefinitely while it installs a puppet regime. Not only are these actions illegal under US and international law, but this administration has already dispensed with the pretenses of "fighting narco-terrorism" or "restoring democracy" in Venezuela. This is nothing more than an escalation in Donald Trump's economic warfare against the country on behalf of the Oil Industry and another chapter in the 200 year history of American interference in the sovereignty of Latin America.

Donald Trump has openly declared that the military will govern the country in service of American oil companies. The American people have already learned the lessons of Iraq and Afghanistan. The Venezuelan people will suffer under subjugation, violence and the looting of their country. US servicemen will be sacrificed and ordered to commit acts of cruelty, not for the safety or benefit of regular Americans but for American capital. Our world will be made less safe. Our country will be sunk into another foreign quagmire. Endless amounts of money will be dumped into the effort, while at home we see programs to feed children and provide healthcare to the poor cut. Our cost of living will increase while our rights are steadily rolled back.

While this administration pounds its chest that this illegal action is a sign of strength, this is in fact the desperate lashing out of a crumbling empire run by cowards. We call upon all people to reject this imperial overreach. Contact your legislators to demand the enforcement of the War Powers Act, and take to the streets in protest!

Please join Veterans for Peace (who organized the action tomorrow) and DSA tomorrow at 12 noon at the roundhouse to demonstrate against this imperialist war!
