John,
Let’s be clear about what happened overnight: Donald Trump ordered an
illegal and unconstitutional attack on Venezuela, with no authorization
from Congress, and no plan for what comes next.
That’s why I didn’t hesitate to go on MSNOW and lay out exactly what’s at
stake in this moment:

This is how forever wars start. It’s not about drug trafficking — if it
were, Trump wouldn’t have pardoned the former Honduran president who was
convicted for his role in a drug trafficking scheme that smuggled 400 tons
of cocaine into the United States.
This is about oil, greed, and power. And it’s about a president who lied
when he said he’d put a stop to endless wars and focus on making life
affordable for people here at home.
Trump can’t even run America, and now he wants to run Venezuela.
Yes, Nicolas Maduro is an illegitimate dictator. That fact alone does not
give Trump the authority to invade another country, kidnap him in the
middle of the night, and force regime change. We’ve tried that playbook
before, and it has failed over and over again. And it costs working people
the most.
Congress, not the president, has the sole power to authorize war.
Republicans need to step up, do their Constitutional duty, and join
Democrats in ensuring that Congress reasserts our authority and puts a
stop to this.
Because if we allow Trump to get away with this, we’re setting a precedent
where any rogue leader can push regime change anywhere they want across
the world.
I’m fighting back, but I can’t do it alone. I don’t take corporate PAC
money, and I don’t answer to oil executives or defense contractors. I
answer to the working people who have the most to lose if we start yet
another endless war.
[ [link removed] ]That’s why I’m asking you to chip in $3 or whatever you
can right now to help me keep up the fight to stop forever wars and rein
in Trump’s abuse of power.

The American people have said over and over again that we do not want
another war. If we’re going to stop this one, we have to step up together.
In solidarity,
Pramila Jayapal
