Hi John,

I wanted to pull back the curtain for a minute. While our voter registration work on college campuses is the heartbeat of Powered by People, it’s only one part of our story. I want to show you the specialized outreach we’re planning right now to reach voters who likely aren’t on a campus, but are just as critical to changing Texas in 2026. To do that, we have to start early.

As we speak, we’re launching a pilot program to help Democrat Taylor Rehmet win the close special election runoff in Senate District 9. We’re calling it Vote by Mail & Chase, but at its core, it’s about making sure no one has to navigate a confusing, often isolating system alone. We’re testing whether the same one-on-one approach that worked with Gen Z can help voters over 65 who are just trying to make their voices heard.

Here’s how it works.

We know that to win here, we have to stop working in silos. It takes a village, and there is no room for ego when the stakes are this high. Community building is the only way forward. To make that a reality, we’re coordinating closely with statewide partners who handle the heavy lifting of mailing out vote by mail applications. Once those packets arrive, our volunteers step in to do what we do best: the human person-to-person follow-through.

In Texas, voting by mail is a maze of strict rules—on purpose and by design. While most organizations mail an application and hope it works out, we plan to stay by the voter’s side through three distinct waves:

• The Application: We help 30,000 eligible North Texas voters navigate tricky ID requirements so their applications aren't rejected.
• The Ballot: We check back to ensure the ballot arrived and help find the hidden ID flap on the envelope that often causes votes to be disqualified.
• The Safety Net: We don’t walk away if a ballot hasn't been accepted near the deadline. We help them track it or find a place to vote in person.

Everything we do at Powered by People is about building bridges. When one of our volunteers helps a neighbor navigate a confusing law, trust develops. We want every voter to know they have a real person they can text whenever they have a question.

We’re piloting this in SD9 because if it works here—in a race likely decided by the tiniest of margins—we will take this model statewide. But as much as we lean into the data, this work is ultimately about the people behind the numbers.
