Hi John,

Happy New Year! As we head into 2026, we’re grounding ourselves in what we do best: building working-class power through organizing—at our workplaces, in solidarity with immigrant communities facing state violence, and alongside tenant organizers fighting to make sure renters can stay housed in Santa Barbara.

Here are some upcoming events and actions you can take to get involved!

Please contact [email protected] for location information.

🗓️ January Events

  • Tues, Jan 6 · 6:30–8:00 PM — Chapter Meeting
Cambridge Drive Community Church (CDCC) (550 Cambridge Dr, Goleta, CA 93117)
Join us for our first chapter meeting of 2026! In addition to regular chapter business, we'll have a DSA 101 presentation and set goals and priorities for the coming year. The DSA 101 will introduce the basics of capitalism—how it works and why socialism stands in opposition to it. We’ll also explain who we are as an organization, the history of our chapter, and our active projects and working groups you can get involved in!
  • Sun, Jan 11 · 2:00–4:00 PM — DSA Labor 101 (Session 4) — RSVP Link
Join us for the final installment of a four-part education series on socialism and the labor movement. In this workshop, we will shift our focus away from radical labor history and turn toward current challenges and opportunities for socialists in the labor movement in the US today. Among other things, we will discuss the recent successful 42-day strike of tech workers employed by Kickstarter. Attendance of previous sessions is not required; this session is open to all!
  • Fri, Jan 16 · 11:00 AM–1:00 PM — Coffee With the Co-Chairs
Java Station (4447 Hollister Ave, Santa Barbara, CA 93110)
Come hang out with chapter leadership, introduce yourself, chat about life, and talk DSA SB chapter happenings!

  • Tue, Jan 27 · 6:30–8:00 PM — Executive Committee Meeting

🏠 Pass Rent Stabilization in Santa Barbara

The Santa Barbara City Council will be voting on an eviction moratorium and a rent freeze on Tuesday, January 13th! If passed, these will be interim protections until the proposed Rent Stabilization Ordinance is fully implemented, which will include a cap on annual rent increases and the creation of a rent board.

We need as many tenants as possible to give public comment on 1/13 at 5 PM in favor of rent stabilization, the rent freeze, and the eviction moratorium. The landlord lobby consistently shows up in full force, so it's imperative we have as many tenants as possible there to share their stories and show City Council what working-class power looks like!

Please complete this form if you can make public comment. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to [email protected] or [email protected].
