Friends,

By now, you've probably heard the story about how Doug Jones took on the KKK and won, prosecuting four Klansmen for a 1963 Birmingham, Alabama church bombing that killed four little girls.

But in a second, I am going to share another story about Doug Jones with you -- about the first time he sought me out in the Senate. When it's done, I am going to ask you to contribute to Doug's re-election campaign. His race is tied right now, and if we can hold this seat and beat Trump's nominee, we're gonna flip the Senate.

If that's enough reason for you to contribute, here's a link to split a donation between Doug's campaign and mine, as well. This is important:

Truth is, I hadn't spent a ton of time with Doug during his first two months in the Senate.

He seemed thoughtful and earnest, and my assumption about him after winning a race in Alabama was that he'd avoid anything controversial.

Then he flagged me down for the first time and said, "Chris, I'd like you to be on the floor for my maiden speech tomorrow. It's going to be on a topic you care about...gun violence."

Truth is, I panicked. I figured he'd draw a line in the sand and place himself as the immovable right flank of the debate in the Democratic caucus.

What followed was one of the most miraculous speeches I have ever heard in person.

Doug Jones, the senator from Alabama, started speaking truth about guns in America.

Now, Doug is to the right of me on guns. But he also can't fathom doing nothing. And the gun owners he hunts with agree.

For an amazing 20 minutes, he made the case that the issue of guns can actually UNITE Americans.

He wanted me at that speech, but he also wanted the senators who stubbornly oppose changing any gun laws there, too. He wanted each side to hear the case for what the Senate COULD be on this issue.

It was amazing.

Like I said, Doug is in a tough re-election fight. But against all odds, it's a race he CAN win. And if he does, not only are we going to flip the chamber, but we're going to send a good person back to the Senate at the same time.

So what do you say?

Can you split a $ contribution between Doug Jones' re-election and my campaign? Your donation will help us win this race and flip the chamber in November.

Doug Jones has taken some tough votes: he voted against Kavanaugh and for impeachment. He has immense moral courage and I admire him greatly for that.

Thank you for supporting him today.

Every best wish,

Chris Murphy
