We are in the middle of the worst economic crisis in generations. Tens of millions of Americans across the country are out of work and relying on expanded unemployment benefits to survive each week. Nearly 52 million people have filed for unemployment in the past 15 weeks.

But instead of providing more help to people struggling all across the country, Republicans in Congress are set to let the expanded unemployment benefits provided by the CARES Act expire next week. This change comes at a time when nearly 23 million Americans don’t believe they will be able to pay their August rent or mortgage.
