Dear Neighbor,

As we start 2026, middle- and working-class Americans and seniors will benefit from the historic tax cuts passed by Congress. Families can expect record-breaking tax refunds this year and 88% of senior citizens will get the taxes they paid on Social Security refunded, while trillions in private and foreign investment are already flowing into the USA, and we are just getting started.

In 2025, we delivered nearly $250 million in federal grants to our district to support infrastructure, public safety, education, and local hospitals and health clinics. Our office also helped return nearly $7 million owed to residents from government agencies this year alone.

As your voice in Washington, I will always fight for you and our office will always be available whenever you need assistance with any federal agency — whether it’s helping you receive the benefits you’re owed, cutting through red tape, or resolving delays that impact you and your family.

Read more below for some of the highlights from the past month. I wish you a Happy and Healthy New Year.

Sincerely,

Nicole Malliotakis (NY-11)

DECEMBER HIGHLIGHTS

2025 LEGISLATIVE & CONSTITUENT HIGHLIGHTS

In 2025, under President Trump and House Republican leadership, we delivered the largest tax cut in American history for working families and made Social Security tax-free for 88 percent of seniors. We also implemented economic policies that drove gas prices to lows not seen in four years, reduced inflation and interest rates, and increased wages, jobs, and GDP.

We also restored the State and Local Tax (SALT) deduction, which now covers 98% of our district, increased the Child Tax Credit, created $1,000 savings accounts for newborn U.S. citizens, and eliminated taxes on tips and overtime. We are also keeping our nation safe by securing our border, deporting gangs and criminals, reducing the flow of drugs, closing NYC “migrant” shelters with more results to come in 2026.

We were proud to resolve thousands of constituent issues and returned over $7 million owed to residents from government agencies. We also delivered nearly $250 million in federal grants back to our district for infrastructure, public safety, education, hospitals, and more in 2025!

WELCOMING VETERANS AFFAIRS SECRETARY DOUG COLLINS TO STATEN ISLAND COMMUNITY CLINIC

This month I welcomed Veterans Affairs Secretary Doug Collins to the Staten Island Community-Based Outpatient Clinic for a roundtable and site visit at the clinic. It was an honor to welcome Secretary Collins to Staten Island. I look forward to continuing to work with the Secretary to strengthen our veterans’ access to the high-quality care they deserve after serving our nation.

AARP NY TELETOWN HALL HIGHLIGHTING SENIOR TAX RELIEF AND CAREGIVER SUPPORT

I was glad to join AARP NY’s telephone town hall this morning to answer questions directly from constituents and discuss the work we’re doing to support seniors and the family members who care for them. I also highlighted the steps we’re taking to improve Social Security customer service, and shared that starting next year, 88% of seniors will no longer owe any federal income tax on their Social Security benefits — delivering real tax relief.

CELEBRATING THE LAUNCH OF THE NEW STATEN ISLAND & BROOKLYN FERRY ROUTE

It was a great day for both Brooklyn & Staten Island as the New York City Economic Development Corporation launched the new NYC Ferry connecting Staten Island and Brooklyn. I’m proud to have delivered billions of dollars in federal infrastructure funding to support the DOT and EDC, and this particular ferry is important to me as someone who represents both Staten Island and Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, and works to connect the two.

PUSHING BIPARTISAN SOLUTIONS TO FIX A BROKEN HEALTHCARE SYSTEM

Our healthcare system is broken and the Affordable Care Act only raised premiums & lined the pockets of big insurance companies. This month, I introduced bipartisan legislation to rein them in but we also need to embrace innovative solutions to reduce healthcare costs. I also discussed this further at our Joint Economic Committee hearing.

DECEMBER LEGISLATIVE UPDATE

After returning from the government shutdown, the House passed a number of pieces of legislation including this year's National Defense Authorization Act, boosting servicemember pay and family benefits, improving maritime infrastructure and strengthening our nation’s counterterrorism tools, borders and defense supply chain.

H.R. 6703 - Lower Health Care Premiums for All Americans Act to lower healthcare premiums for all Americans, expand access for employees of small businesses & force PBMs to be more transparent. It’s a good start as we continue our fight for commonsense, bipartisan reforms to lower health insurance & prescription drug costs.

H.R. 5345 the Improving Social Security’s Service To Victims of Identity Theft Act requires a single, specially trained point of contact to handle each victim’s case from start to finish. H.R. 5348 the Social Security Child Protection Act directs SSA to issue a new SSN to any child under 14 whose card is lost or stolen in the mail. Both bills protect Americans from Social Security fraud & swiftly help those who do become victims.

H.R. 2965 and H.R. 4305 put small businesses first & reduce burdensome and unnecessary regulations that cost more than $3 trillion annually. Both of these bills will ease bureaucratic red tape, providing much needed relief to both businesses & their consumers.

H.R. 4371, the Kayla Hamilton Act, closes a dangerous loophole that allowed illegal immigrant criminals & gangs to enter our country. Only 7 Democrats supported this bill that could have helped prevent tragedies like the murder of Kayla Hamilton.

H.R. 1049 and H.R. 1069 both deter the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and other foreign interference in our classrooms and ensure American values are taught in our schools by empowering parents, requiring transparency and prohibiting federal education funds from going to any school that receives funding from Communist China.

CELEBRATING 100 YEARS OF SIRICO'S IN BROOKLYN

I celebrated the 100th Anniversary of Sirico’s catering hall in Brooklyn. A century ago, Frank and Rose Sirico brought their Italian bread business from Little Italy to Dyker Heights & it evolved into a renowned catering hall where happy memories are made. We wish their family another 100 years of success!

WELCOMING 1ST MARINE CORPS DISTRICT TO BROOKLYN'S FORT HAMILTON

We are excited that the 1st Marine Corps District now calls Fort Hamilton Army Garrison in Brooklyn their home. Nicole welcomed Colonel R.J. Jones and his team as they shared their unit's mission and outlined their future recruitment goals. The great news is recruitment for the Marines & the rest of the military is significantly up this year! For more information on the Marines, please visit marines.com.

PARK HILL APARTMENTS INVESTMENT

I worked with City Councilwoman Kamillah Hanks and NY State Senator Jessica Scarcella-Spanton and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to deliver an investment & a comprehensive plan from the city, state and federal levels to improve the 1,100-unit Park Hill Apartments.

Rep. Malliotakis co-sponsors bill to prevent healthcare cost spike in 2026

A bipartisan group of congressional lawmakers, including local Rep. Nicole Malliotakis, have introduced new legislation that would prevent a significant jump in healthcare costs for millions of Americans in 2026.

“What we’re trying to simply do here is put in some type of balanced stopgap measure that, number one, addresses the affordability issue that consumers are facing today with premiums increasing, as well as fix some of the abuses by insurance companies and their brokers that have led to a tremendous amount of taxpayer money being wasted in the form of subsidies,” said Malliotakis, a Republican who represents Staten Island and parts of South Brooklyn.
