Atlas Network mourns the passing of Dan Grossman, a devoted champion of liberty and an extraordinary leader whose service and generosity has shaped our organization, as well as many others in the worldwide freedom movement.

Dan served on Atlas Network’s Board of Directors for 20 years, including eight years as Chairman and, most recently, as Treasurer. Across those roles, he provided steady leadership, sound judgment, and an unwavering commitment to strengthening the worldwide community of independent think tanks that advance freedom.

Just seven weeks ago, at the 2025 Freedom Dinner, hundreds of Dan Grossman's admirers gave him a standing ovation as he received Atlas Network’s highest individual distinction, the Sir Antony Fisher Achievement Award, which was given in recognition of his lifetime contributions to the global freedom movement.

“Dan Grossman embodied the very best of Atlas Network’s mission and values,” said Brad Lips, CEO of Atlas Network. “He was thoughtful, humble, kind, and unflinchingly honest. He deeply appreciated all the work being done to advance human freedom, but also he cared so deeply about our cause that he always challenged us to improve, to do our work better and better. I'm deeply grateful to have benefited from his leadership example for so many years. His impact on Atlas Network—and on all of us who had the privilege to work with him—will endure for generations.”

Atlas Network’s Executive Vice President Dr. Tom G. Palmer noted that “Dan’s contribution went beyond improved management. He always asked first what was the morally correct thing to do and then what was the best way to do it. He was a principled businessman who believed that every human being had the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The world is better because of Dan Grossman.”

The video produced by Atlas Network on the occasion of Dan’s receipt of the Fisher Achievement Award calls attention to Dan's decision three decades ago, when he retired from his career as an entrepreneur, to devote himself to improving the management and the governance of the nonprofit organizations he admired. Since that time, he served more than one hundred combined "board years" for organizations such as Foundation for Economic Education, Human Rights Foundation, Students For Liberty, and Young Voices, in addition to Atlas Network and others.
