Breaking: Judge extends deadline! Chip in to help »

Dear John,

Last week, advocates — including our team at Amnesty — escalated pressure on ICE
to demand that children and their parents are freed from detention together.

We now have until Monday to stop ICE from keeping families in detention or asking parents to separate
from their children.

Please chip in with a donation to support our emergency efforts. Every little
bit adds up — even $15 makes a difference.

In recent weeks, a federal judge ordered that all children currently held by ICE
be released — declaring that detention facilities are “on fire” with confirmed
cases of COVID-19 and inadequate protection.

However, the judge cannot order ICE to release their parents, too — that means
ICE could keep these families locked up indefinitely or ask parents to separate
from their children.

Amnesty is doing everything in our power to make sure ICE frees all families
together: with your support, we’ve driven tens of thousands of letters and phone
calls to ICE Acting Director Matthew Albence and ICE field offices. We’re
sharing research with legislators and executive officials, we’re making sure the
truth gets out to TV reporters and journalists — we’re turning up the heat on ICE to do the right thing.

These children and their families have a chance to go free by Monday. But we
must act now. Please help.

John, when we come together to apply pressure on
ICE, we win — just this month, Kelly Gonzalez Aguilar, a 24-year asylum-seeker who spent
three birthdays in ICE detention, was freed because of efforts from advocates
including Amnesty.

But there are more people who need to be freed.

ICE has a choice to make: ask parents if they want to separate from their
children or stay detained together in danger; or keep families SAFE and TOGETHER
by simply freeing children with their parents. We know ICE has the authority to
do the right thing — but it will act ONLY if there’s enough public pressure and
attention.

As Monday’s deadline bears down on us, please make an urgent gift to support
Amnesty and our work to free these families.
