It’s that time of year again, John — back to school! This time of year always fills me with hope, as kids across the country fill up their backpacks and start new classes.

As a student, I used education to propel me forward and was grateful for the new opportunities each year brought. As a teacher, the start of a new school year was an exciting new challenge to work with students to ensure a better, brighter future.

This year, I have been given an incredible opportunity to fight for education in the halls of Congress.

I know the power of education – education saved my life . All students deserve to have access to a high-quality education. All teachers deserve support and resources to adequately prepare them to educate our children.

Every day, I am fighting to make college more affordable, ensure opportunities for more students, and oppose measures that divert public funding from our schools.

It is important to have leaders who understand the unique challenges our students face. That’s why I have introduced legislation to clean up school buses and end food insecurity on college campuses to ensure students are able to learn in healthy environments.

Because of grassroots supporters like you, there is an educator in Congress. I will continue to put these issues at the forefront of my agenda – but I will need your help to ensure that this agenda is here to stay.
