Washington, D.C. | www.mpac.org ([link removed]) | December 31, 2025 — The Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC) stands in firm solidarity with the Somali American community in Minnesota as they confront a sustained wave of Islamophobia, intimidation, and targeted harm. The break-in and vandalism of a Somali-run daycare is a deeply disturbing act that strikes at the safety of children, families, and caregivers and reflects a broader climate of hostility directed at Somali American Muslims.
This is not an isolated incident and reflects a troubling and ongoing pattern. Somali Americans have faced an escalating onslaught of harassment, threats, and public vilification fueled by reckless rhetoric and the spread of harmful misinformation. When Muslim communities are repeatedly villainized and misrepresented, it creates conditions where violence and intimidation are not only possible but predictable.
Accountability must be real and it must be immediate. MPAC calls on law enforcement and public officials to conduct a thorough investigation into this incident, including whether bias or Islamophobia was a motivating factor, and to ensure that those responsible are held fully accountable under the law. Justice cannot be selective and civil rights cannot be conditional.
Additionally, we call on elected officials, media figures, and public leaders to reject narratives that demonize Somali Americans and to recognize the direct harm such rhetoric causes. Communities should never be forced to endure collective blame or fear simply for existing as Muslim and immigrant.
The safety, dignity, and humanity of Somali Americans are non-negotiable. MPAC will continue to stand with the Somali American community and to confront Islamophobia wherever it appears, while advocating for equal protection, accountability, and justice for all.
