Since December 31, 1862, when abolitionists gathered to celebrate the freedom promised by the Emancipation Proclamation at midnight, communities have gathered on the last day of the year to celebrate the liberty that begins when we stand together and refuse to bow. We celebrate 2025 this watch night by remembering the millions of Americans who came together in this moral moment to reconstruct democracy. And we pledge to love forward together, not one step back in 2026.
