John,
The past year has been full of chaos caused by Donald Trump and the Republican-controlled Congress. That has not stopped Jahana from delivering for families across the country and stopping the damage.
At the beginning of the year, Congresswoman Hayes joined a bipartisan town hall on CNN [[link removed]] , standing up to her GOP colleagues and the Trump administration. She responded to questions from voters and powerfully rebuked the damage caused by Elon Musk and DOGE.
When the Trump admin cut nearly $200 billion in food assistance, leaving families and farmers to scramble to pick up the pieces, Jahana fought back. She introduced the Restoring Food Security for American Families and Farmers Act of 2025 [[link removed]] , which would reverse the harmful cuts that the Trump administration made to SNAP.
As an educator and a member of the House Education Committee, Jahana has been a leading voice for our students and teachers. She has introduced legislation to protect the Department of Education and feed our children in school. The Congresswoman wants to keep our communities safe from the scourge of gun violence. She is a leading voice on this issue:
* She introduced the School Violence Prevention Act [[link removed]] to bolster resources to eliminate gun violence in schools.
* She has pushed for Republican leaders, including Speaker Mike Johnson, to address the gun violence epidemic.
* She introduced the Safer Neighborhoods Gun Buyback Act [[link removed]] to establish state and local gun buyback programs to help prevent gun violence, remove unwanted firearms from communities nationwide, and empower local safety efforts.
When Republicans failed to protect affordable health care, she called them out on the House floor. This failure will have devastating consequences for millions of Americans who rely on the marketplace for affordable health coverage, and Jahana is intent on restoring those credits .
The Congresswoman also spoke with the CT Mirror during the Republican government shutdown. [[link removed]] At a time when many families faced uncertainty about whether they would receive SNAP benefits or go back to work, Jahana gave families the information they needed to get through the shutdown.
Her bipartisan Caring for Survivors Act provides long-needed updates to benefits for surviving family members after the service-related death of a loved one. She will not stop until these survivors and all veterans get the full benefits they deserve.
These are just a few of the causes Jahana had championed in 2025 — and this important work will continue in 2026. Republicans will continue to play games with health care and food assistance, all to satisfy Trump’s billionaire agenda.
That is why we need to continue supporting Jahana for the fights ahead. If you are with us in this work, will you pitch in before our end-of-year fundraising deadline? [[link removed]?]
