The Trump Administration’s anti-DEI executive orders call for the termination of “equity-related” federal grants and contracts. We know that discrimination, especially on the basis of race, gender, sexual orientation, and gender identity, is a root cause of human trafficking. Federal anti-trafficking law itself acknowledges these underlying drivers, making equity-focused approaches essential to prevention and protection efforts.
Our DOJ grant-funded programs are designed to achieve the equity-related goals of the Trafficking Victims Protection Act, to increase the identification of trafficking survivors and ensure they get the services and safety that they need. With these executive orders, the government essentially requires FNUSA to silence survivors.
Last month, we filed Freedom Network USA v. Trump et. al., because we refuse to compromise our core value of equity, refuse to self-censor, and refuse to silence survivors. We are investing in real solutions to meet the needs of survivors nationwide.
