This is a matter of life or death |
Hello John,
Please don't overlook this email! As Max alerted all of us yesterday, Congress is quickly advancing the next coronavirus relief bill and we are fighting to ensure it adequately addresses the needs of older Americans, workers and our nation's most vulnerable citizens. With so much at stake, we need you to weigh into this urgent situation ASAP!
If you haven't yet signed our Official Petition to Congress, please take a moment to do it right now. And if you've already signed it: Thank you. We need to ensure this bill does not pander to powerful corporate interests at the expense of the health and financial security of older Americans. To support the National Committee's work on your behalf, please also consider making a gift in whatever amount you can afford today. Your gift will go directly to the frontlines of our urgent fight to ensure the next coronavirus relief bill does more to help older Americans survive this crisis, both physically and financially.
Sincerely,
|

Right now, millions of older Americans are struggling during the coronavirus pandemic. Yet, instead of working to shore up Social Security and Medicare, expand access to Medicaid, improve conditions at nursing homes and ensure access to affordable prescription drugs, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell continues to block legislation that would help Americans survive this public health and economic crisis. What's worse, Senator McConnell and other so-called fiscal hawks in Washington are using the pandemic as an excuse to weaken our nation's social insurance safety net.
That’s why your voice must be heard NOW, before harmful decisions are made in Washington! So please, sign our Official Petition to your member of Congress — and speak out against efforts by Senate Majority Leader McConnell to hold hostage passage of the next coronavirus relief bill in exchange for measures that further pad the wallets of big business and could cut programs like Social Security and Medicare. In this time of unprecedented crisis — and in this critical election year — your voice matters more than ever!
Negotiations on the next coronavirus relief bill is underway, and already there is a concerted effort to include the "TRUST Act" in this legislation. If that happens Social Security and Medicare could be subjected to across-the-board spending cuts proposed by so-called "Rescue Committees." And incredibly there is growing bipartisan support for this measure so we are pulling out all the stops to defeat it!
With so much at stake during this uncertain time for our country, we must ensure our advocacy and grassroots efforts remain strong. And we simply cannot afford to be complacent. That's why I urge you to sign our Official Petition to Congress today and let your member of Congress know that you will not accept benefit cuts as a trade-off for passage of the next coronavirus relief legislation! We need to hear from you ASAP!
