ADL&rsquo;s Fighting Hate from Home webinar today, 7/23, at 2 PM ET/11 AM PT to discuss protecting voting rights in a time of pandemic and racial reckoning. The webinar will share insights from voting rights experts about how to ensure that our upcoming elections are fair and inclusive, and that efforts at disinformation don’t spread unchecked.

This is complicated by COVID-19, which in addition to its devastating health and economic impact, brings challenges around voter ID, registration, mail-in voting, and reduction of polling places, to name only a few.

The struggle against voter suppression and for access to the ballot is arguably the biggest racial equity fight this year. Dismantling systemic racism and moving toward a more just society is linked to ensuring that historically marginalized communities, such as Black Americans, have a meaningful voice in the political system. This is not lost on those who traffic in hate.

Nancy Abudu

Abudu is Deputy Legal Director for Voting Rights at the Southern Poverty Law Center. She leads a team of experts dedicated to ensuring the voting rights of minority communities and other politically vulnerable populations, primarily in the Deep South. She was previously the legal director for the ACLU of Florida. She also served as a senior staff attorney with the ACLU&rsquo;s Voting Rights Project. Abudu has litigated a variety of civil rights cases in federal and state courts, including challenges to state felon disenfranchisement, proof of citizenship and voter photo ID laws.

Kim Wyman

Wyman is the Secretary of State for Washington, and she is also Co-Chair of the National Voter Registration Day Committee and Co-Chair of the Council of State Governments Overseas Voting Project. Wyman is only the second female Secretary of State in Washington&rsquo;s history. She previously served as Thurston County Elections Director and Thurston County Auditor. Wyman heads one of the most diverse offices in Washington state government, and her responsibilities include overseeing elections in the state.
