When rioters attacked the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021 one of the insurrection’s main planners was actually not there: Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio. 

Tarrio had been arrested days earlier for destroying a Black Lives Matter banner at a D.C. church. But his plan to keep Trump in office by rioting and attacking lawmakers who voted to certify the election went forward unimpeded.

Tarrio’s goal was to subvert and overturn a national election—which had given an undeniable Electoral College and popular vote victory for Joe Biden—by causing maximum chaos and violence to stop certification.

Tarrio was eventually sentenced to 22 years in prison for seditious conspiracy: attempting to disrupt and ultimately stop Congress’ certification of the 2020 election.

Donald Trump pardoned Tarrio, along with every single other Jan 6 rioter, on his very first day back in office. And now Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio is considering running for Congress to replace Matt Gaetz in Florida:

Convicted felon and insurrectionist Enrique Tarrio is not the only J6 alum our group is targeting to defeat in Florida: unelected Senator Ashley Moody has her own ties to the January 6 planners. 

As a high-ranking leader of the pro-Trump “Rule of Law Defense Fund,” Ashley Moody helped organize getting rioters to the Capitol on January 6 to disrupt the electoral vote count. (After the deadly January 6 Capitol insurrection, Moody tried to scrub her association with the group.)

Democrats cannot afford to ignore Florida. Republican policies are driving up the cost of everything, from housing to food and basic necessities. And Latinos are turning away in disgust from the GOP’s cruel and abusive anti-immigrant agenda.

We can win in 2026 and flip the U.S. Senate to Democrats — driving a stake in the heart of MAGA and making Trump a lame-duck president a mere two years into his term.
