Dear Friends,
Before I share a personal reflection with you, I want to begin with a simple, heartfelt request:
If TAC’s work has helped you, your loved ones, or your understanding of severe mental illness this year, will you make a donation today to support our End-of-Year Campaign?

Your generosity ensures that families across the country continue to have a place to turn when they feel lost or overwhelmed.
As a family member and a clinician, I know how isolating it can feel when someone you love is living with severe mental illness. Unless you’ve lived it, it’s hard to understand the fear and heartbreak of watching a loved one struggle without the care they need.
At TAC, many of us have been in that same place. That’s why we’ve made it our mission to offer guidance rooted in compassion and lived experience.
This year, our most-watched SMI Spotlight episode — “What people get wrong about anosognosia” — reached more than 11,000 viewers. In it, I share my journey supporting my brother through schizophrenia, explain the science behind anosognosia, and talk about how the LEAP method can help families connect with loved ones who don’t believe they’re sick.
If you’ve watched, I hope it brought clarity and hope. If not, I encourage you to watch — we cover strategies for getting help and treatment for your loved one who doesn't know they are sick.
As we near the final days of our End-of-Year Campaign, I’m asking again for your support: Will you make a donation today to ensure this lifeline continues for every family who needs it?
Your gift keeps our helpline open, supports our Schizophrenia and Psychosis Resource Center, and allows us to produce episodes that answer the questions families are afraid to ask anywhere else.
Thank you for being part of our community. You are trusted partners. We cannot do this work without you. And for that I am deeply grateful.
With gratitude and hope,
Dr. Xavier Amador
P.S. If you haven’t seen it yet, please take a moment to watch “What people get wrong about anosognosia.” You can also explore other episodes from this year — each one is made to support you and your family. And THANK YOU for subscribing, liking, sharing the podcast.
