Friends,

This weekend marked a huge victory for secular Americans.

At the Democratic National Committee's (DNC) annual summer meeting, Democrats became the first major political party to publicly, officially embrace nonreligious voters.

The resolution they adopted, which you can read in full here, doesn't mince words. It praises secular values, recognizes our community's contributions to society, and states clearly that we should be "represented, included, and heard by the party."

This resolution was long overdue, and it comes after a lot of hard work by the Secular Coalition for America building relationships with Democratic Party officials and encouraging them to take this step.

Their action marks a turning point as more and more political leaders come to recognize the growing importance of the secular movement. At nearly one quarter of the total U.S. population, nonreligious Americans—one third of which are Democrats and nearly half of which are independent—will represent a sizable voting bloc in the upcoming election.

We will continue to work with Republican, Libertarian, Green, and other party leaders to take similar action in the future. We want every political party to deeply value our contingency and continuously reach out to us to earn our votes. Our work to mobilize secular Democrats was critical to achieving this victory—no matter what party you belong to, help us build momentum by signing up for our party organizing initiative here

Together, in the coming months, years, and beyond, we will continue to make our voices heard and make it clear that secular values must play a primary role in American government.

Thank you for joining us in this tireless, critical work. Without your support, this recognition by the Democratic Party would not have been possible.
