This year, we’ve fought back against attacks at a scale and pace we’ve never seen before. 

New voter ID laws. The attempted theft of a state supreme court seat. A president openly demanding gerrymanders across the country to hold control of Congress.

It’s brought us face-to-face with a hard truth: There are no reinforcements on the way. No miraculous rescue brigade is coming. 

We are the cavalry. And while this might seem daunting, it’s important to remember that this is how it has always been in the fight for a fairer, more equal America. 

The fight for equal protection under the law for people regardless of their race, gender, or sexual orientation didn’t happen because people sat on the sidelines. 

The fight for due process under the law didn’t happen because people wrung their hands. 

The fight for a truly representative democracy, where the will of the people prevails, didn’t happen because people crossed their fingers and hoped for the best.

These fights have always been carried out by people like you: concerned Americans who are willing to roll up their sleeves and fight — because you know that rights and freedoms do not defend themselves.
