Before I talk about our city, I want to make everyone aware that the Senate voted today, and the House of Representatives voted yesterday on a Bernie Sanders amendment to the "defense budget" to allow Congress to take 10% of military spending and use it to help people. It didn't pass either house. Both of our Senators, one of whom's husband has made a sizable fortune investing in military contractors and the other being considered for Vice President, voted no, not to use 10% to help people. Mike Thompson also voted no, proving once again who he really works for- Raytheon, Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Honeywell, L3 Technologies, Northrup Grumann, General Dynamics and more.

Mike, you should be ashamed. 10% is less than the budget has gone up since Trump took office, and you have voted for every single increase in that time. The people need money to spend now, and we need healthcare, and you are pushing Nancy Pelosi's Cobra scam, the Heroes Act, as if it will help us, when it really will enrich your insurance donors. You sir, are a fraud.

My friends in District 2 and District 11 will see that their Representatives voted "Yes". District 3, were you really surprised?

When I ran for City Council in 2018, I heard from a woman who wanted to open a daycare center, but the permitting process and fees were extreme. Part of what I want to do, as your City Council Member, is make it cheaper and easier to open a locally owned business. I know for a fact that American Canyon residents want to support locally owned stores, but it's pretty hard to support local when you're looking for hardware or shoes and we just don't HAVE those stores.

When you leave it up to corporations, you get Vallejo residents working at the Fairfield Walgreens and Fairfield resident working at the Vallejo Walgreens. I've seen it! I want for American Canyon residents to have the chance to succeed and to thrive. Here. And I want us to produce more local jobs. We can increase our revenue and get a few cars off the road, and keep American Canyon revenue IN American Canyon.
Our campaign has already received a couple of really great endorsements, which is wonderful. I have received the endorsement of the Napa County Progressive Alliance and the endorsement of Vallejo City Council Member Robert McConnell. The NCPA and Robert both know that putting the people before profits is the only way that government can work, and that when enough people come together and take a stand, there is nothing that cannot be accomplished.

When we're not in a lockdown, many kids go to the park after school, or to an after school program. Some kids go home, but this is the time for kids to run and play and be kids. Ever wondered about what disabled kids do?

I spoke with an American Canyon parent whose daughter is in a wheelchair. She took her son to the park to play, and her daughter asked "Why can't I go on the swing, Mom?"

Sophie has recently moved her family here from Alameda, because we have a great school system and American Canyon is such a great town. But if Sophie were to travel to the nearest park with equipment specifically for disabled children, I think she would have to travel all the way back to Alameda to find that.

That's why I think American Canyon should construct such a park. There is a section of our community that is quietly overlooked. And while wheelchair access to buildings is extremely helpful to disabled adults, wheelchair access to a regular park means only that someone in a wheelchair can watch kids play.

I believe that when we construct Sophia's Park, that families from Napa, Vallejo, Benicia and Fairfield with disabled children will come here so that their children can play too. I believe this will bring some benefit to a few local stores. Maybe it could even be a part of our future town center.

It's true that we will have to find some investors. This will probably cost $50,000 to build, but currently 80% of highway traffic goes right through our town without stopping. This would give some people a reason to make American Canyon their destination. And it will help disabled children and their families. We have an opportunity to do something really great here.

I am so proud to be an active member of the Napa County Progressive Alliance. In our short existence, we have helped to block the dissolution of two elected offices in favor of an appointed one, made running for NVUSD Trustee cheaper and easier, and are currently working to get unincorporated areas in the middle of the City of Napa to be incorporated into the city and to prevent 5G wherever we can.

Vallejo Police Department, after one of their officers recklessly shot Sean Monterrosa with an assault rifle, through the windshield of a pickup truck, got the windshield repaired. It's almost as if the police department didn't know the protocols for a crime scene investigation. Remember that VPD also allowed the suspended Richmond police officer who murdered Eric Reason to tamper with the crime scene and take pictures. And it turns out that whoever got the windshield repaired (without the knowledge of the Chief or City Council) has had previous "controversies", although I have no more specific information than that. But Vallejo's City Manager, Greg Nyhoff, doesn't see any problems with VPD. Greg Nyhoff has to go! Fortunately, State Attorney General Xavier Becerra is going to investigate the destruction of evidence, although Becerra has declined to investigate the killing itself even though Solano County District Attorney Krishna Abrams was pressured by the public to recuse herself due to
her self-disclosed bias towards police.

President Trump seems set on forcing schools into opening and reopening businesses. When that happens, if most of us haven't gotten more help from the federal government by that time, the housing crash we will experience is going to make 2008 look like an afternoon at the beach.

Tens of millions of people have only a $1200 income total over the last four months. Tens of millions more didn't even get THAT. Some businesses have been forced to close, because a lot of the small business loans went to connected political operatives and churches.

Americans NEED the government to cover their rent and mortgage payments. Don't call it a temporary UBI if that term makes you uncomfortable, but most of us are going to need rents and mortgages covered, retroactive at least to April. Otherwise there's going to be a MASSIVE number of evictions, housing rates will crash, and the billionaires that Congress has been giving "bailout" money to are going to come in and scoop up hundreds of thousands of homes so they can sell them or rent them for a profit.

It is beyond irresponsible of our Congress to have left so many people with so little help, to this point. And the Heroes Act that Nancy Pelosi and Mike Thompson are pushing is a HUGE injustice in that it completely fails to prevent tens of millions of Americans from losing their homes.

When that happens, who will be the real criminals? The ones who legally purchased repossessed housing? Or the ones who shut down business nationwide, so that no one could earn their rent for 4 months, and then allowed vulture capitalists to pick their bones? Losing elections is too good for officials who are setting this up to happen!

If you're looking for some extra reading, "In Defense Of Litmus Tests" by former National Press Secretary for Bernie Sanders 2020 makes an excellent case for continuing to push left.
