In a new Spanish-language public service announcement (PSA), Dr. Francisco Cigarroa of the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio urges Texans to work together to slow the spread of COVID-19.
Dr. Cigarroa encourages Texans to follow these simple steps to protect themselves and others:
- Wear a mask
- Wash your hands regularly
- Stay home when possible
- Social distance from others
I urge all Texans to heed the advice of our medical experts to reduce the spread of this virus and keep our fellow Texans safe.
EXTENDING COMMUNITY BASED TESTING SITES IN DALLAS AND HOUSTON THROUGH JULY 31ST

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has extended federal support of Community Based Testing Sites in Dallas and Houston through July 31, 2020 as the state continues to respond to COVID-19.
Our continued collaboration with our federal partners is essential to containing the spread of this virus. The extension of this program in Dallas and Houston will help secure more testing for Texans in these communities.

Tesla announced the construction of Gigafactory Texas in southeast Travis County. This electric vehicle manufacturing facility will create at least 5,000 new jobs and generate over $1 billion in capital investment.
Texas has the best workforce in the nation and we've built an economic environment that allows companies like Tesla to innovate and succeed.
Tesla Gigafactory Texas will keep the Texas economy the strongest in the nation. I look forward to the tremendous benefits that Tesla's investment will bring to Central Texas and the entire state.
ALLOCATING $200 MILLION IN CARES ACT FUNDING FOR E-LEARNING FOR TEXAS STUDENTS

Last week, I announced that $200 million in Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act funding will be allocated to the Texas Education Agency (TEA) for the purchase of eLearning devices and home internet solutions to support remote learning for Texas students during the COVID-19 pandemic.
With this funding, the TEA will purchase and distribute devices, hotspots, routers, and more based on specific needs identified by local education agencies.
The State of Texas is committed to providing reliable and effective solutions that will help students academically succeed while protecting public health.
GIVING SCHOOL DISTRICTS MORE SAY IN REOPENING SCHOOLS FOR THE 2020-2021 SCHOOL YEAR

To ensure students receive the education they need, Texas is giving local school districts flexibility on how to approach the upcoming school year.
As the state continues to respond to COVID-19, the health and safety of students, teachers, and parents is the top priority.
ALLOCATING AN ADDITIONAL $118 MILLION TO HIGHER EDUCATION FUNDING

Today I announced $118 million in additional federal funding through the CARES Act to support higher education in Texas, including $93 million to help students continue or restart their progress toward earning a post-secondary credential or degree.
One of the best ways to accelerate our economic recovery is to make strategic investments in our future workforce. By investing in our students and institutions, we will make our workforce and our economy even stronger.
U.S NAVY DEPLOYING RESOURCES TO RIO GRANDE VALLEY, SOUTHWEST TEXAS TO COMBAT COVID-19

This week, the U.S. Department of Defense sent U.S. Navy teams to four locations in South and Southwest Texas to help combat the spread of COVID-19 and help meet medical needs in Texas hospitals.

NEW REPORT: MASK MANDATE SUCCESSFULLY SLOWING THE SPREAD OF COVID-19 IN NORTH TEXAS

A new report shows that the mask mandate is successfully slowing the spread of COVID-19 in North Texas.
The report also shows that a community lock down is not needed as long as masks and other distancing strategies are used.
ANNOUNCING PARTNERSHIP WITH OMNICARE TO PROVIDE COVID-19 TESTING TO ASSISTED LIVING FACILITIES, NURSING HOMES

Omnicare, a CVS Health company, is partnering with the State of Texas to increase COVID-19 testing in assisted living facilities and nursing homes throughout the state.
This partnership will increase testing capacity and help us protect the vulnerable Texans from this virus.

Last week I joined U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue to sign the Shared Stewardship Agreement between the State of Texas and U.S. Department of Agriculture.
This agreement is an important step in renewing our commitment to land conservation and responsible forest management.
I am confident we will achieve the goals of this agreement and ensure a brighter future for the State of Texas.
HONORING TWO MCALLEN POLICE OFFICERS KILLED IN THE LINE OF DUTY

Two law enforcement officers in McAllen were killed in the line of duty last week.
In Texas we honor the brave law enforcement officers who put their lives on the line to keep our communities safe.
We mourn the loss of these courageous officers who gave their all. Texas is eternally grateful for their service.
