Dear John,
My name is David Lien. I’m a veteran, an author, and an outdoorsman.
On Veterans Day this year, I found myself hunting whitetails in northern Minnesota. Not on private fields — but out in the vast expanse of public lands that we all share: the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, the surrounding Superior National Forest, wildlife management areas, state parks, scenic rivers, and more.
The Boundary Waters is where I go to paddle, to hunt, and to hike. It’s where I go to feel free. It doesn’t care who you vote for or what’s in your bank account. It belongs to all of us.
Today, our public lands in Minnesota and across the country are being put at risk. Foreign mining billionaires are still trying to put a copper‑ore sulfide mine upstream from the Boundary Waters. This dangerous form of mining is known to destroy watersheds.
In fact, there are no examples of sulfide mines in water-rich areas that have not polluted.
That’s why today I’m asking you to join me in making a gift to the organization that is leading the fight to speak loudly for this quiet place, Save the Boundary Waters. And right now, every dollar is doubled if you give before December 31.
