Dear John,

Back in March, I visited Children's Hospital Los Angeles with other cast members from The Pitt-and it was an experience I'll never forget. It started out with a CHLA doctor asking me to sign his board license. He told me he became a doctor because he grew up watching me play Dr. John Carter on ER.

I was honored, of course. But more than anything, I was in awe of the person in front of me. This guy, and all the rest of the doctors, nurses, and caregivers, are real heroes. I play a doctor on TV, but they are the ones holding a patient's hand during one of the toughest times of their lives. They are the ones fighting to save a child's future, no matter how complex or serious the diagnosis.

That moment-holding that doctor's license, hearing what inspired his path-reminded me just how extraordinary this hospital is and why supporting CHLA matters so much.
