Dear John,

Yumi's family is struggling financially. The COVID-19 pandemic severely affected her parents’ ability to work. Fewer hours at work means less money to cover basic household expenses.

With her parents spending more time at home, Yumi is thrilled because that means more time to explore the nearby creek and park. Every afternoon after snack time, Yumi will go look for new bugs to add to her bug jar. She’ll study and draw them in her journal. Sometimes the bugs have lots of legs. She isn’t sure why some are hard and some are squishy.
