John Lewis died with his work still unfinished.
Since the Voting Rights Act was practically destroyed by the Supreme Court in 2013, states across the country have begun instituting discriminatory laws and regulations meant to keep voters of color away from the polls by any means necessary.
Strict voter ID laws, last-minute voting roll purges, and mass polling place closures that result in long lines and impossible wait times are just a few of the ways voter discrimination has reared its head in the 21st century.
But there's a way to make things right: pass the Voting Rights Advancement Act. The bill, already passed by the Democratic House, would empower the federal government to step in and stop voter discrimination. But President Trump has called for more obstacles to voting, not less -- and if he gets his way, millions of Americans will be blocked from the ballot box this November.
