Hi John,
I’m Dr. Matt Sloat, and I’m the Science Director here at Wild Salmon Center.
I feel fortunate to have what I think is one of the most fascinating jobs imaginable: I have the privilege of working in the most incredible salmon watersheds in the world. If you’ve never had the experience of visiting a salmon watershed before, I can’t recommend it enough. A salmon river is an awe-inspiring place to be — not just because it’s where you’ll see these amazing fish, but also thriving forests, clean water, and a host of over 100 different species, from caddisflies to brown bears, that count on the return of salmon to sustain their populations.
But this job comes with an enormous responsibility. My team and I have committed ourselves to the work of protecting these watersheds and their wild fish. Every year, this work gets more difficult, due to the accelerating impacts of climate change. Now, we not only need to protect our salmon and their home rivers from today’s threats, we must also restore resilience to habitats that salmon will need to thrive on a rapidly changing planet. To do this, we need all the tools and resources possible.
Our year-end match challenge is active until tomorrow, so every dollar you give will go twice as far for this critical work. Can you make a tax-deductible gift now while it can provide 2X the resources we need to protect and restore salmon watersheds? ([link removed])

Right now, Wild Salmon Center is doing the work on a scale that no other organization can. From the lab to the field, we are harnessing the power of cutting-edge science to track and protect wild fish populations, assess critical habitats to understand how changing conditions are impacting salmon survival, and so much more.
I’m proud that our team listens to the evidence and not special interests. Everything we do is for the benefit of protecting wild salmon and their home rivers. But that means we rely on our community of supporters to keep this important work going strong.
John, don’t miss your chance to make a gift today while every dollar will be matched. Your tax-deductible donation will immediately go twice as far and help fund 2X the research, field work, and supplies we need. ([link removed])
The ripple effect that wild salmon have is amazing. When we create conditions for salmon to thrive, we are also creating clean water for humans, healthy forests that directly slow the pace of climate change, and jobs and recreation for local communities.
Thank you for caring and for trusting science to lead our efforts.
For the fish and the forests,
Dr. Matt Sloat
