It’s been a very tumultuous and busy few weeks, John.

We know through the flurry of the news cycle, it can be hard to keep track of our work, our progress, and what our key priorities are as a movement.

That’s why we’re going to start sending some periodic emails like this one that summarize our work together and give you a preview of what’s coming next and where we’re focused.

As always, all of this work is owned and funded by all of us – that’s why our average donation is $14.98. We don’t rely on foundations or large donors to fund our programs. So if you’re excited to support this work, you can do so now, or continue reading.

Here’s a look back at this month’s priorities and what’s coming up.

Our priorities:

  • Defund the Police: Our movement has generated hundreds of thousands of calls and emails demanding justice for George Floyd and Breonna Taylor. But we know that George and Breonna deserve more than justice within our current system. We need to re-imagine public safety and move resources away from police forces like the one that murdered Breonna in her sleep. We must invest in our communities and programs that actually keep us safe.

That's why we hosted four Defund the Police Organizing Calls with over 2,500 participants. We trained people on how to research their city budgets, speak out at city council meetings, write letters to local papers, talk to their friends and family, and more. We created resources and surveyed our members on where they’d like resources to go instead. We will continue to call for justice for Breonna and organize and train our members to defund the police in their communities.
  • 2020 Election: Poll after poll shows that women are the most important group of voters who could tip the fate of this election and defeat Trump.1 We have a plan to drive record turnout. We launched our Feminist Organizing School earlier this month to build leadership skills, deepen our understanding of intersectionality, and give our supporters the tools to knock-on-doors, persuade voters, and get-out-the-vote between now and November.

In addition, we’re already recruiting and training volunteers who are calling infrequent voters in swing states. So far they helped call all registered Democrats in Arizona to encourage voters to request a mail-in ballot and help them through the process. And this is just the beginning.

If you agree with these priorities and want to own a piece of this work, please chip in $5 or whatever you can. Every dollar counts.

What’s next:

  • Massive voter-contact: We’re just approaching 100 days until the election which is going to kick off a massive voter contact effort. We’re going to be calling every single Women’s Marcher (look out for a call) to finish what we started in 2017 and make sure our movement is ready to turn out in record numbers and defeat Trump.
  • Webinar Series: We’re continuing with our webinar series to lift up important voices in this time and help make sure the world we return to after this pandemic is better than the one we left behind. Our next webinar, The Economic Impact of COVID on Women, is on July 29 so stay tuned.
  • Women2Women Organizing: Following our Feminist Organizing School, we’re going to be building capacity in towns and cities across the country that can help activate and harness the power of women towards winning big in 2020, defunding the police, and securing a feminist future in the long term. We will train you, coach you, support you. Stay tuned on how to join.
  • Feminist Futures Summer Camp: Youth Empower, our youth branch, is hosting a virtual summer camp for first-time and new activists. Attendees will receive a deep education on the intersections of feminism, racial justice, immigration justice, disability justice, and more. This three week program kicks off on July 27.

Needless to say, we have big plans for the next couple of months. Will you chip in $5 or anything you can so we can put these plans into motion?

Each of us – everyone who has marched, voted, volunteered, ran for office, and stepped up since 2017 – is what makes this movement powerful.

Onward,

Rachel Carmona
