[Green Party of Canada]([link removed])
Dear Friend,
These final hours of 2025 matter for the future of the Green Party of Canada.
When I stepped into the role of Acting Executive Director in late 2024, the party was in serious trouble. The Green Party of Canada Fund Board, which oversees the party’s finances, had not ensured that basic requirements were in place to support the party’s operations. Organizing work had stalled, and staff were demoralized. So, at a time when we should have been preparing for an election, we had to focus on ensuring that the party was in compliance with Elections Canada, our bank, and the Canada Revenue Agency.
Over the following months, I worked closely with our Federal Council to turn things around. Oversight was restored, budgets were approved, and the situation stabilized. By early 2025, the party was in a much better position than when I arrived.
Then the snap election came.
Green Party volunteers were harassed in the streets and on doorsteps. Winter storms disrupted both signature gathering and door knocking. The Green Party was excluded from the national leaders’ debates in spite of having met the requirements to participate. And above all, fears about the political direction of the country drove intense strategic voting. Despite enormous efforts from staff and volunteers alike, the Green Party fell below the Elections Canada rebate threshold.
That one fact has shaped everything that followed.
Because we did not qualify for the rebate, the party was left responsible for the full cost of the election. We emerged with roughly one million dollars in combined election-related debt. Since then, the party has reduced its already small staff, cut expenses, and worked under very tight constraints to pay that debt down aggressively. Today, just eight months later, I am delighted to share that thanks to supporters like you, we are just $100,000 away from completely clearing that election debt!
The party is doing more with less, but the debt still limits what we can do next. That is why clearing it before December 31 is so important.
Every dollar of debt we retire now is a dollar that can go toward hiring staff, supporting local campaigns, and ensuring candidates are not starting from behind when the next by-election or general election arrives. It is the difference between scrambling and being ready.

When my time as Acting Executive Director concluded earlier this year, I left that role with real confidence in the staff, the direction of the organization, and the renewed spirit of cooperation across the party. There is serious work ahead, but the foundation is stronger than it has been in a long time. Clearing the election debt is a critical part of protecting that progress.
If you are able, please make a year-end donation today. Your support will help eliminate the remaining election debt and allow the party to enter 2026 on strong footing, focused on organizing, outreach, and winning seats.

Thank you for standing with the Green Party during a challenging period and for helping ensure we are ready for what comes next.
With gratitude,
Paul Manly
P.S. I want to say thank you to all the Greens in Nanaimo–Ladysmith and across Canada who supported my own campaign this year. Your generosity and trust meant a great deal to me. I saw firsthand how committed Green supporters are, even in difficult circumstances. That commitment gives me confidence that together we can finish this work, and enter 2026 strong and ready for what lies ahead.
