Bolts: Ohio Bans Grace Periods for Mail Ballots, Fulfilling Trump’s Wishes [[link removed]]
Ohio just made it harder to vote by mail, John .
Senate Bill 293, which was recently signed into law, repeals Ohio’s practice of counting mail ballots that are postmarked prior to Election Day but that arrive up to four days after polls close. Now, any ballots delayed in the mail that arrive after Election Day won't count in Ohio.
This follows executive orders from President Trump, who is against mail-in voting despite voting that way himself , and has called for ending these so-called grace periods for mail ballots everywhere. Ohio’s new law follows his lead, threatening thousands of votes in the process.
We've said it before and we'll keep saying it: Mail-in balloting is safe and secure. It's a nonpartisan way for eligible voters to make their voices heard in our elections. And now it's harder for them to participate in elections in Ohio, whether they're a military member voting from overseas, someone who is immunocompromised, in a nursing home, or any other reason for voting by mail.
Defending vote-by-mail is a crucial part of protecting our fundamental right to vote. Chip in with $25 or whatever you can today to support mail-in voting across the country >> [[link removed]]

Trump has long lied about mail-in voting. He's claimed mail-in voting contributed to his 2020 election loss, though no widespread fraud has been found. In fact, the one case of mail-in ballot fraud in Pennsylvania after the 2020 election was a man who was prosecuted for returning his dead mother's ballot for Trump .
The use of mail-in voting has become very common across the country and study after study has shown that fraud in mail-ballot voting is rare. There are also several safeguards in place nationwide to protect against fraud, including signature requirements and barcodes to track envelopes sent by officials. States have spent tens of millions of taxpayer dollars investigating voter fraud since 2020's "big lie" and found virtually nothing.
In Ohio, this new law will result in thousands of ballots being thrown out. We know this because thousands of ballots were accepted in the grace period in previous selections, some of them making the difference in local elections -- like in Warren County, where several races came down to single-digit margins.
Being blunt: There is no good-faith reason to end the vote-by-mail grace period. Just like the other Trump attacks on our elections in general and mail-in voting in particular -- this is a partisan voter suppression exercise meant to codify MAGA's power in perpetuity.
Opponents of voting rights will go to any length necessary to stay in power. Pitch in $25 or whatever you can to protect mail-in voting nationwide and stop these suppressive policies >> [[link removed]]

Integrity First Voter Action Project is dedicated to expanding ballot access and increasing voter participation across the country.
Since the Supreme Court gutted key provisions in the Voting Rights Act, extreme politicians have taken advantage to pass harsh laws that restrict access to the ballot box. These restrictions particularly affect disadvantaged communities and people of color. It’s our goal to bring awareness to these laws wherever they may crop up and organize voters to take action to ensure the right to vote is available to everyone in their states and communities.
