This is Dani Sterbinsky, the Democrat and Navy veteran running to flip Arizona’s 9th District and defeat ultra-MAGA extremist Rep. Paul Gosar.

When I made the choice to run for this seat, I worried that my background serving in the Navy and fighting for workplace rights in my career would make fundraising—which is so important for grassroots campaigns—difficult, if not impossible. 

I did not spend my youth building political connections and making friends with powerful, well-connected people. I wore the uniform and served my country proudly, but I am brand new to politics so I worried that might hold me back or somehow make me less appealing as a candidate.

Then and now: me at 22 when I first joined the Navy (left) and today as a candidate for Congress.

I could not have been more wrong.

Since we launched in late November, we have already raised over $115,000 from nearly 4,900 individual donors in just one month.

I am truly blown away! Words cannot express how grateful I am for all of the support. 

This campaign is about so much more than defeating a MAGA extremist and flipping a House seat, although those targets are extremely important. 

It is about a vision of America where even people who disagree can come together around common ideals and values to make change—and reject the right-wing MAGA worldview that is destroying our country.

Our launch is off to a great start—and now we are looking to finish strong at the end of the year and kick off the official start of the 2026 campaign cycle with a bang.
