When classrooms across the nation closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, teachers took on the crucial role of finding safe and accessible solutions for schooling.

They worked hard to ensure that our students did not suffer.

And now, as Trump and Education Secretary Betsy DeVos endeavor to re-open schools without the resources necessary to protect our students and educators from harm — teachers are once again being called upon to act.

As a former teacher myself, I know firsthand the challenges we face in the classroom. From inadequate funding to massive class sizes, educators are constantly asked to do more with less.

It is unacceptable to ask educators to take the risk of re-entering a classroom knowing that the government has no plans to keep our students safe.
