Dear HD33A Residents,
As you may have seen, this shocking new video on X, posted by 23 year old Youtube influencer Nick Shirley, has taken the country by storm. The video had nearly 100 million views in less than two days! It shows numerous fraudulent daycare and medical services non-profits across the Twin Cities that are currently receiving millions of taxpayer dollars but not providing services. If you haven’t watched it, you can see it here. It’s 42 minutes long but well worth the time.
These are just a handful of what I believe are thousands of similar non-profits committing fraud. What is shocking about this video is that the main focus is fraudulent daycare centers – something we have known about for several years. This fraud even predated the Feeding our Future Scandal which has already found over $250 million in fraud with 87 people indicted and most convicted. The fact that it is still occurring is damning as the Walz Administration knew about it, convicted a few daycare centers several years ago, claimed it was over, but obviously has done nothing to change their practices to stop it. Frankly, those of us pushing to stop fraud from the “outside” assumed the daycare fraud was stopped and taken care of. Obviously not.
I currently serve as the Vice-Chair of the House Fraud and Government Oversight Committee. This committee was set up a year ago to help investigate and expose the fraud in State Government and to push solutions to stop it. We have found fraud in many, many programs in State Government and have repeatedly brought state officials into the committee to answer questions. Here is a link to the December 17th hearing along with a news clip on local Fox 9 where I talk about what’s been going on.
Since Governor Walz and Attorney General Ellison have done little so far to stop or prosecute fraud, the U.S. Attorneys office has stepped in. They are the ones who stopped and prosecuted the many Feeding our Future fraudsters, and they are the ones who are prosecuting all this other fraud. But frankly, they need more help because the fraud here is enormous.
As a note, Attorney General Ellison’s office is technically responsible for prosecuting Medicaid fraud. He obviously hasn’t been doing his job, and interestingly, the US Attorney’s office (even under President Biden) hasn’t brought them in or tipped them off during these investigations.
Last week, the Federal Government announced investigations into Minnesota fraud by the Treasury Secretary, FBI, Department of Education, HUD, SBA, and Center for Medicaid and Medicare. In addition, they have temporarily forced the Walz Administration to pause or cut off certain programs that spend federal dollars. They are also bringing in outside auditors to go through most of our programs. This is huge news and very welcome since we were getting nowhere with the Walz Administration who has spent more time trying to deny or downplay things than taking action.
There is a large group of state employee “Whistleblowers” (they claim almost 400 people) who have been feeding fraud information to our Fraud Committee and the press. They claim they have been shutdown and retaliated against by the Walz Administration for years when they brought fraud to their attention. We have met with them several times and can confirm that they are credible. From recent reports, they will be going public and testifying in front of the U.S. Congress in January. Complete with all their evidence, they will be able to show the depth of this fraud and the people in our state leadership who knew and allowed it to continue. If you aren’t sure what to believe, we will know the truth soon.
Finally, I want to say how sickened I am about what has happened to our state. No matter your political party, people in the past were generally honest and tried to do the best for our residents. We were a “high trust society”. That is gone and it’s a sad time for Minnesota.
