In response to Trump’s massive cuts to Medicaid and ACA subsidies, Senator Bernie Sanders is pushing for major health care reforms.

Senator Sanders said, “At a time when the vast majority of Americans understand that our current health care system is broken, dysfunctional and cruel, we must offer serious proposals which begin to address the systemic deficiencies within American health care.”1

Sanders is calling on Congress to take six broadly popular actions to save health care: Extend ACA subsidies; Roll back cuts to Medicaid; Expand Medicare to cover dental, hearing, and vision; Cut the cost of prescription drugs by at least 50%; Invest in expanding primary care services nationwide; and ban stock buybacks and restrict CEO compensation at health care companies.2

The first step is reversing the damage that Trump, Speaker Johnson, and the entire GOP have done to Medicaid and ACA insurance plans. Millions are now facing skyrocketing costs or losing their insurance altogether. We must restore funding to Medicaid and ACA subsidies, but we need to go even further.

For years, Bernie has called on lawmakers to expand Medicare coverage to include the vision, hearing, and dental care that seniors need, fund more primary care services, and cut prescription drug costs by 50%. In light of the GOP’s health care disaster, these reforms are even more necessary.

Corporate greed is a central issue at insurance companies, hospitals, and other health care facilities. America’s top health care companies made $2.7 trillion in profits between 2001 and 2022, and they spent $2.6 trillion of that money on stock buybacks and dividends. Bernie is calling to ban these buybacks and put a cap on CEO pay.3

At a time when health care is on the brink of disaster, Congress must take urgent action and pass Bernie’s reforms.
