Before the crowds were cheering his name this past winter, Marcel’s life had looked very different. As a baby, he had open-heart surgery with doctors unsure what his future would hold. But Marcel has always had a stubborn streak – the good kind. 

By the time he was old enough to stand on a board, Marcel met his Special Olympics coach, Armand. Their first lessons together were slow and steady, full of tiny victories and plenty of tumbles. But the trust grew. 

Over nearly 20 years, Marcel and Armand have grown side-by-side. Every run, every “Let’s try that again,” every snowball fight between practices helped Marcel become the athlete you see here: confident, empowered, and blessed with a friendship of a lifetime. 

When the 2025 Special Olympics Winter World Games came along, all those years of patience, practice, and hard work finally came together. Marcel flew down the course in the Intermediate Giant Slalom and the Intermediate Super G and landed on the podium with not one, but TWO silver medals! 🥈🥈
